This and that

Some people have finished reading HP6 already. Talk about determination. And to some others - not everyone would consider posting pseudo-spoilers in all caps funny, you know.

Forgot to mention I bought the manga Aegis in the Dark (Yami no Aegis), and decided to drop it right away. It's the artwork, mainly. I don't mind that it reminds me of those illustrations you found in Indonesian teen magazines in the late 70's to early 80's. But I do mind that the artwork has a choppy feel to it, like lines that didn't seem to have been inked completely or faces whose proportions are sometimes a bit off. The story premise itself isn't so bad.

Just got an idea this morning - there are usually Chinese versions of anime/manga artbooks and fanbooks. I don't suppose there would be any Chinese version of the D-Boys photobook? Yeah, don't mind me, I'm just feeling extremely silly.

Yeah, me included, I guess. (Grumpy old Eve, aren't I? :))

But if I were a fan, I'd much rather buy the original book. It's so worth it.

My brother spoiled it way way before the launch day. He got ahold of some English rumours about some guy in the town where they print the books that placed a very big bet on something that happens in HBP.

Those bloody Englishman, they'd make bets on anything!

Are Chinese versions official or bootleg? I went to Comix Connection (a local comics store) yesterday and found Naruto, OP, FMA, Nana and Slamdunk artbooks for less than half the price of the Japanese ones. The paper looks lower quality though, and I'm not sure but the print quality looks lower too. I don't like taking chances when it comes to artbooks. Either I buy good ones or I don't buy at all.

I remember Indonesian edition Magic Knight Rayearth and Sailormoon artbooks were quite nice, though.

I think I'd whack anyone who'd dare give me spilers ^^

As for the Chinese artbooks - I believe some of them are legal, i.e. published with permuission from Japan. But the ones I found seem of pretty good quality, which means good paper, etc.

Then I'm lucky to have come seen only the good (presumably legal) ones. Those in Kino are legal, right?

There're official and bootleg version (pirated from the official Chinese-licensed one) of them.

For the official ones, their quality isn't bad, but isn't too good either (it priced only one-third or half from the original, so what can we expect? ^^;), but are better than those licensed in Indo few years ago (Sailormoon and MKR, that is). The pirated ones are real bad though, some of the pics are cropped, and some pages are taken out (I bought one out of curiosity on my visit to China last time. Seems like they're only sold in China) >>;

The story and characters are not so bad, but since this is a form of visual art, the visual part counts. And I'm not that enthusiastic about the artwork ^^

ha ha ha... it's the story that counts for me. many inaesthetical-pleasing manga that is successful because the character and story are good despite how 'keriting' the drawing was. ha ha ha.
